Harbour Watch provides scheduled, preventative boat checks designed to identify issues early and give you peace of mind when you can’t get down to the harbour. After each visit, we send a clear written report supported by time-stamped photographs, so you can see the condition of your vessel and what has been checked.

Every boat is different, so our service can be tailored around your requirements. If you have specific priorities or would like additional checks outside our standard checklist, we’re happy to discuss a bespoke plan to suit your boat and how you use it. We can also provide more frequent checks or additional one off checks following bad weather.

  • Strops and Lines: Check the entire length of the primary bridle and backup strop for fraying, wear, or rot.

  • Chafe Points: Pay close attention to where lines pass through fairleads or over bow rollers.

  • Hardware: Inspect shackles, thimbles, and swivel pins for signs of corrosion or pitting.

  • Bilge and Pumps: Test all bilge pumps by tripping the float switch or pouring a bucket of water into the bilge. Look for unusual odours like diesel or gas.

  • Batteries: Check charge levels and ensure terminals are clean and dry.

  • Seacocks: Exercise every seacock (open and close) to prevent seizing.

  • Windage and Sails: Ensure furling headsails are tightly stowed with sheets wrapped several times around the sail. Check for mould or damage on covers.

  • Deck Drainage: Clear cockpit drains and scuppers of debris (like leaves) to prevent standing water.

  • Visual Walkaround: Inspect the hull and topsides for new dents or scrapes from interaction with other vessels or the mooring buoy itself.

  • Hatches: Check all hatches/doors are fully closed and are sealed and not allowing water into the cabin area.

  • Shore Power: Check cable connections and pontoon breaker.

  • Fenders: Check they are secure and in correct position and tied securely

  • Covers: Check all covers are secure and fastened and in correct position
